We all do it. We men that is.
After getting up in the morning, one of the first things we do is shower and shave.
I’ve been doing it for the last 30 years, and until just recently have always used the cheapo variety disposable twin-blade razor. Sure I’ve tried the latest and greatest throughout the years, like the Gillette Fusion, but having to cough up nearly $20 for a set of replacement blades was the deal breaker for me.
I’ve seen ads for the Dollar Shave Club on television but never really thought much about trying it. That is until just recently.
I don’t know what it was, but it was probably after a terrible morning shaving experience, that got me thinking I need to try something different.
With that said, here’s my Dollar Shave Club review.

Dollar Shave Club Review
Let me lay the stage here for a minute so you know where I’m coming from.
I’ve been a Dollar Shave Club member for all of 2 weeks at the time of this writing. So this review is based upon my first impressions.
Edit: I’ve now been a member of the Dollar Shave Club for close to 6 months, and I’m still loving it. Still using the Humble Twin as documented in this review, and have had no reason to switch up the blades.
In fact, I decided to write this review this morning while in the shower after my morning shave.
The Basis Of This Review
Before we get into my review of the Dollar Shave Club, let me tell you what I’m using.
I elected to go with the Humble Twin, their standard twin razor. I’ve always used disposable twins, so I thought this was the best choice for me. If you’re not into twin blades, they have a 4 blade and a 6 blade razor as well.
I also purchased the Easy Shave Butter, think shaving cream, but this review is more about the razor. I will say, I kind of like this product. Takes a while to get used to, but I’m starting to like it more then traditional shaving cream.
Instead of going on and on about how great or terrible this razor is, I thought it would be easiest to classify this Dollar Shave Club review into two parts:
Closeness
As far as closeness goes, it’s good. I wouldn’t say it’s great, but it’s definitely better then my old disposable twin.
There is a smooth feeling to my face after shaving.
Comfort
This is what set this razor from the Dollar Shave Club apart from any disposable razor that I’ve ever used.
Typically after shaving, it feels like I just used a piece of sandpaper on my face. My face is raw, it burns, there are nicks and cuts. Not a pleasurable experience.
After using the Humble Twin, there’s no burn, no irritation, and no nicks.
Summing Up This Dollar Shave Club Review
So that’s it? Not sure what else you want me to say!
What else does shaving come down to? It’s a close shave and the comfort is fantastic!
This is by far one of the best purchases I’ve ever made.
Each month you’ll get 5 new replacement blades sent directly to your door. The selling point for me was the cost, $1/month plus $2/S&H. If you go with the 4 or 6 blade the cost is slightly more, but you get free shipping and handling.
The shave is better than any disposable I’ve ever used, and it’s cheaper.
It’s kind of a no brainer!

I’ve spent years doing disposable and years doing the electric razor. I finally found the end-all/be-all – a safety razor and double edged blades. I bought a Merkur safety razor for $35 from Amazon (which will last a lifetime), a (what amounts to) two year supply of blades for $10, and (what amounts to) a two year supply of AMAZING shaving cream for $8. I can’t say enough good things about this system. I wish that I had stumbled upon this method 20 years ago. You gotta try it. It’s better for the environment also. 0nce a week, I toss out a super-thin razor blade. That’s it.
